Queen Of Disaster

This is my second inspiration post in a row and and some might think this resembles a lot the last one because my style inspiration is so colorful and bright, but I guess I've always loved colors, so it's understandable.

If I had to qualify this second inspiration in a few words I'd say: Queen of summer. This style is very summery and festive, and includes things like crowns, flowers, pastel colors (as usual!), vintage clothing, fairies and glitters. But this whole "Queen" look can also be turned into it's opposite: a sort of goth princess look with black lipstick and heavy makeup. This look says: I am a strong independent woman, which I feel like lately.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Kitsch

I've been inspired by 90's kitsch for a while now, but I finally decided I really want to incorporate it in my everyday fashion. I also love the weird futuristic style that was created in the early 2000's with the rise of Internet. I'm saying all these wonderful things, but I guess I should elaborate a little. Basically, for 2014, I will inspire myself by glitter (as usual!), metallic wear, pastel colors, fluorescent aliens, children's tattoos and dinosaurs. But let's not forget other aspects of the nineties, like the Riot Grrrl movement and the grunge trends. And let's not forget the amazing Spice Girls! Basically, anything colorful and playful, but also a little faux punk rock will be welcomed this year.

There is another part to this inspiration post, so stay tuned to know about what my future outfits will look like.

Fiction, When We're Not Together

I was really excited for the holidays to come because that meant I'd get to dress in a festive manner and  create extravagant outfits I'd only wear inside. However, I went away on the first day of vacation and I dressed the same for 6 days straight. Can you imagine the horror! This had never been seen in the history of Imogen before! When I got home though, I quickly slid into a classy outfit and put lipstick on to compensate for my disastrous fashion statement. I mean the outfit wasn't that bad but the fact that I wore it none stop made it horrible. This is why I have promised myself to dress as well as possible until the New Year. I also should find my camera charger, so I can share my outfits with all of you.

Oh! and by the way, happy Hanukkah, merry Christmas and happy Kwanzaa!

Have You Got Colour In Your Cheeks

Winter has arrived and my motivation to dress well has disappeared. I just want to curl up in a ball and hibernate until the warm weather comes back. The cold weather isn't nonetheless an excuse to not have a good time. Lately, I've been dressing to be practical for the first time of my life. I've been going to many parties and I discovered that there's a certain dress code to have a good time. Firstly, no dresses or skirts: they are too much of a hassle when you try to move around. Secondly, don't wear clothing you like too much. You can wear clothes you like, but not your favorite items, because you don't want to accidentally stain them while you're having fun dancing around. Therefore, the best thing to do is wear a t-shirt and pants which is sadly very boring. Here are my latest acceptable outfits. I actually really like them even though it's simple.

We're On Each Other's Team: A Rant

Society says that it's normal for teenagers to be sad and lost because there are many biological changes happening in there bodies. As much as I think it's true, I still believe there is another important factor we seem to forget about and that's our society itself.

Our society is based on the concept of individualism which is an ideology that advocates the ego. We are taught to think about "me". "Me" being the little voice inside that gives you self-importance. This ego is what creates your identity. It tells you: "My name is ____". It gives you the image people see when they look at you. The problem with this "me" is that this sense of self isn't who we really are. Of course it's important and we need it for our survival, but often we think a lot about that "me" without actually looking after ourselves.

Our generation is being raised by the Internet that bombards us with images of what we should be and what we should want. So many young people are sad and don't know what to do with their lives because they feel they aren't achieving these goals. We are taught to make "me" (our ego) satisfied and not ourselves.

We want to have a good grades so we can have a good job and make lots of money to have a stable life. But is that really what life is about? We are constantly put in positions that we don't want to be in. I often wonder why we can't do what we want with our lives. It's considered bizarre and wrong to do what we love in life, and I believe that's where there's a big flaw. We do things to serve our society and not others.

We are so caught up in our little bubbles that we forget that there are others around us that are also suffering. People wonder why youngsters punch one another, why they punch walls and why they hurt themselves, but it doesn't seem surprising to me when you see how they are left on their own, without the support of others.

When I went to Senegal, I learned a huge life lesson. I learned that communities are the secret to happiness. If we learned to be in groups, we could learn to help one another. It would of seemed impossible for me to hear a Senegalese talk about a clinical depression. It felt as if, to them, a depression wasn't a sickness, but a period of sadness that everyone goes through at some point in their life. And when that moment happens, a whole community would be there to help you through your rough moments.

This concept doesn't exist in our Western world though. We find a sickness for every single person out there. Depression, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, body dysmorphia: the list goes on and on. I find it very sad that we have become a society of sadness and loneliness, but I have hope because there are still many people out there seeking to help others.

Everything Works Out So Good

I'm seventeen now. Wow! That's weird! The year I waited for my whole life has ended and it's been one of the best years of my life. But now what? I don't know. It's a surprise. I don't know what to expect from this year. I know I'm graduating High School and I know it's the last "official" year of being a teenager, but that's basically it. It's funny how life passes by quickly. One moment you're a kid, then you become an adolescent and suddenly people say you're an adult. Where does the time go, I wonder.

It's bizarre to think that I'm at the end of a period of life that I will never live again. That's why I made a few resolution to live my seventeenth year (and all of the years after) to the fullest.

I would start out by saying that I should look out for myself more, because I've been getting hurt too easily. If I want to become a strong independent woman, I have to be able to know my limits. Also, I would like to do more creative work in the next year, like videos and zines because they really inspire me.

Talking about videos, I made a short movie about being 16. It had always been the ideal age to be because of the movies, so I decided to make my own vision of what sixteen was, to remember what it's actually like.

Hot Patootie Bless My Soul

As you might remember, I went to the Rocky Horror Picture Show last year and I had a blast. This year, I went again and had even more fun. I didn't have a particular Halloween costume idea, so I dressed up as a futuristic geisha/girl from the 90's or 2000's. I always love creating costumes even though it's harder for me than you think it would be. I had such a hard time putting this outfit together, you wouldn't believe it, but I feel pretty satisfied with the weird yet cool result. The drag costumes, the toast throwing and the toilet roll tossing was as much fun as usual, and I hope this becomes a tradition that will be continued for many years. This cult movie is amazing!

The Living Dead

Halloween is around the block, but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate in advance. Last Saturday, I went to a Zombie Walk with M., L., A., R., Augustin and Ian. We wore fake skin and gruesome scars, we painted are faces a pasty white and spat fake blood next to by passers. When we arrived at the meeting point, there were zombies all over the place. Scary zombies and not so scary zombies were all united in a walk to invade the city!!!

We had lots of fun incarnating the roles of the living dead. It really put me in the Halloween mood.
